The Walter V Shape Modified Chisel/Osteotome is a bone-cutting hand instrument used to cut, split and shape bone during surgery. It has a 19cm shaft and a 5mm V-shaped modified working tip, made from German stainless steel. It is built for surgeons who need controlled bone cuts, and for distributors who need a reliable, repeatable supply. Browse the full range in our Chisels & Osteotomes category.
Surgeons also refer to this instrument as a Walter osteotome, a V-shaped bone chisel, or simply a modified surgical chisel.
At a Glance
The V-shaped modified tip concentrates force along a narrow line of contact. This lets the surgeon start a cut precisely where it is marked and follow it without the tip skating across hard cortical bone. The 5mm width suits narrow, defined cuts rather than broad bone removal.

Bone chisels and osteotomes of this type are used wherever bone must be cut, split or contoured under direct vision. Typical settings include orthopedic surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and reconstructive bone work. The narrow 5mm V tip is chosen for defined cuts in a confined field rather than for removing large volumes of bone. The instrument is made from German stainless steel, which holds a working edge under repeated mallet impact and resists corrosion and pitting through many autoclave cycles. It is fully autoclavable. Clean and dry the instrument immediately after use, and inspect the tip for edge damage before sterilizing.
Tip width decides how wide a cut you make and how much force is needed to start it. The 3mm tip enters bone with less force and suits finer, narrower cuts in tight spaces. The 5mm tip covers more bone per pass and is the better default when the cut line is longer or the bone is denser. If you regularly do both, most buyers stock the pair.

What is a bone chisel used for?
A bone chisel is used to cut, split or shape bone during surgery. The surgeon places the tip on the bone and drives it with a mallet, cutting along a controlled line. Chisels are used where a saw is too aggressive or cannot reach the site.
What is the difference between a chisel and an osteotome?
A chisel is bevelled on one side only, so it tends to steer away from the flat face and is used to shave or lift bone from a surface. An osteotome is bevelled on both sides, so it drives straight down the cut line and is used to split bone through its depth. Many patterns, including this one, are listed under both names.
Is this Walter osteotome autoclavable?
Yes. It is a reusable instrument made from German stainless steel and is fully autoclavable. Clean and dry it right after use, then sterilize by your facility's standard steam autoclave cycle. Check the working edge before each sterilization run.
Do you offer custom branding or OEM manufacturing?
Yes. We manufacture this instrument under your own brand, including custom laser marking and packaging. As the factory, we control the full process from raw steel to finished instrument. Send your requirements through the wholesale request page for pricing.
