What Instruments Are Used in Nasal and Sinus Surgery?
Two instrument families do most of the work. Sinus and antrum curettes have a small cutting cup on a long shaft, angled straight, 45 degrees or 90 degrees so the surgeon can reach around the middle turbinate and into the frontal recess without losing the endoscope view. Nasal knives incise the septal mucosa and cartilage in septoplasty and submucous resection. Most theatres keep all three curette angles on the tray rather than choosing one, because the angle needed changes as the dissection moves deeper.

What Is the Difference Between a Straight, 45 Degree and 90 Degree Sinus Curette?
The angle decides what the instrument can reach, not how well it cuts. A straight curette transmits force directly down the shaft, so it is the strongest of the three and suits the antrum and ethmoid cells. A 45 degree curette clears the middle turbinate area while keeping the handle out of the endoscope's line of sight. A 90 degree curette reaches into the frontal recess, which sits above and behind everything else. Cup size is a separate choice: 1.5mm for narrow recesses and fine work near the skull base, 2.5mm for faster clearance in wide cavities.
Are These Instruments for Rhinoplasty or for Sinus Surgery?
This range is for functional nasal and sinus surgery — septoplasty, FESS and antrum work carried out by ENT surgeons. Cosmetic rhinoplasty uses a different set of osteotomes, rasps and scissors, which we list separately under our plastic surgery range. The Freer nasal knife is the one instrument that appears on both trays.
What Material Are These Instruments Made From?
All pieces are surgical-grade stainless steel with a satin finish to cut glare under the endoscope. Handles are knurled so grip holds with wet gloves. Every instrument is single-ended, hand-finished and passivated for corrosion resistance.
Are These Instruments Reusable and Autoclavable?
Yes. All instruments are fully reusable and autoclavable at 134°C. Clean immediately after use, rinse with distilled water and dry fully before storage. Check the curette cup edge for dulling at each cycle — a blunt cup tears mucosa instead of cutting it, which increases bleeding and obscures the endoscope view.
Should I Buy a Set or Single Instruments?
Buy singles if you are replacing one damaged piece or adding an angle you use heavily — every instrument above has its own page and model number.
