Basket Liposuction Cannulas

Related Instruments

A basket shaped liposuction cannula is a blunt-tip aspiration cannula whose distal section is cut into an open cage, giving a far larger open area than a drilled port pattern of the same diameter. It is used to remove subcutaneous fat under vacuum in the deep layer and the debulking stage of body contouring, where volume matters more than fine control. This category is part of the Healermed Liposuction Cannulas and Accessories range and covers 11 hub and handle fittings across 84 diameter and length combinations, supplied worldwide to surgeons, clinics and distributors.

Basket Shaped Cannulas in German Stainless Steel for Deep-Layer Debulking

Every cannula design trades removal rate against control. The basket sits at one end of that scale: it is the fastest instrument in the range and the least forgiving, which makes it the right tool for the first half of a large case and the wrong one for the last.

How the Basket Shape Works

A basket cannula carries several openings cut around the distal section so that the remaining metal forms a cage, or basket, rather than a tube with holes in it. The open area is far larger than any drilled port pattern of the same diameter, and it runs all the way around the shaft.

That gives the highest draw rate in the range for a given cannula size. Fat enters from every direction at once and the shaft does not need to be aimed, so large volumes move in fewer passes. On a big case, that is time saved under anaesthesia and fewer strokes for the surgeon's hand to keep even.

The trade is control, and it is a real one. A basket removes fast and from all sides, so it belongs in the deep layer and the debulking stage, not close to the skin and not near the end of a case. Surgeons who use it typically debulk with the basket and then change to a low-port cannula for shaping. Used in the superficial plane it will take more than intended.

The distal tip is closed and rounded. It separates the plane by blunt dissection as the cannula advances, pushing vessels and nerves aside rather than dividing them, and the vacuum works through the basket openings rather than the end of the shaft.

Clinical Applications

  • Deep-layer debulking of the abdomen, back and outer thighs
  • High-volume cases where pass count and operating time need to come down
  • Larger patients with the 4.0mm to 6.0mm diameters
  • First-stage removal before changing to a low-port cannula for shaping

How to Choose a Size

The basket pattern is built for volume, so the 4.0mm to 6.0mm diameters in 30cm to 35cm are the core working range for deep-layer debulking. The 3.0mm to 3.5mm in 25cm to 30cm suits flanks and smaller body areas. Below 2.5mm a basket has little advantage over a conventional port pattern, and it should not be used in the superficial layer at any size. Match the fitting to the syringe, vacuum line or handpiece already in your theater.

Material and Sterilization

The cannula is made from German stainless steel with a passivated surface that resists corrosion and pitting through repeated cleaning cycles. It is reusable and can be steam autoclaved at 134°C. Flush the lumen and every opening with clean water immediately after use and dry fully before autoclaving. An open basket traps tissue debris more readily than a drilled shaft, so flush from both ends until the water runs clear and inspect the whole cage under light; check the struts for any bending, since a deformed basket loses its shape permanently.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a basket shaped liposuction cannula used for?

It is used to remove subcutaneous fat under vacuum in the deep layer during the debulking stage of body contouring. The open cage section gives the largest draw area of any pattern in the range, so large volumes are cleared in fewer passes than a drilled port cannula of the same diameter.

What is the difference between a basket cannula and a multi-port cannula?

A multi-port cannula is a tube with holes drilled in it; a basket cannula has the distal section cut away so the metal forms a cage. The basket has a much larger open area and removes fat far faster, but with less control, so it is used for deep-layer debulking rather than shaping.

Is this cannula autoclavable?

Yes. The instrument is fully reusable and can be steam autoclaved at 134°C. Flush the lumen and every opening with clean water immediately after use, remove all residue before sterilization, and dry completely. Inspect each opening under light at every cycle, since edge condition decides how the cannula behaves in tissue.

What is the minimum order quantity for bulk orders?

The minimum order quantity is agreed per order rather than set at a fixed number. Send us the sizes, fittings and quantities you need through the wholesale request page and we will confirm the minimum for that specification. This lets a small distributor start with a trial order and a larger importer scale up on the same terms.

Which fitting should I order?

Order the fitting that matches your existing equipment, not the shaft. Luer lock for standard syringes and suction tubing, Toomey hub for 60cc syringes, a power handle for manual use with a dedicated handle, and a MicroAire PAL or Lumsail hub only if you own that handpiece. The cannula itself is identical across all of them.

Do you provide samples?

Yes. Samples are available on request and the buyer covers the shipping charges. Tell us the diameter, length and fitting you want to evaluate and we will confirm what can be sent. Testing a sample before a bulk order is the fastest way to check edge finish and hub fit against your own equipment.

Can I order a custom size?

Yes. Custom diameters, working lengths and port configurations are available on request in addition to the standard size grid. Send your specification through the wholesale request page and our production team will confirm what can be produced. Custom branding is also available for distributor and OEM orders.
