Wullstein Micro Ear Scissors are fine cutting scissors for ear surgery under the operating microscope. The Wullstein pattern has the longest reach of our three micro ear scissors: a 9cm working length with 4mm blades. The Four Blade Directions

• Wullstein straight, 4mm — HM-WS-S40. The blades are straight, so they cut in line with your view down the ear canal.
• Wullstein bent up, 4mm — HM-WS-UP40. The blades are bent upward, so they cut above the line of the shaft while your view stays clear.
• Wullstein bent right, 4mm — HM-WS-R40. The blades are bent to the right, so they cut to the right of the shaft without moving the instrument across the view.
• Wullstein bent left, 4mm — HM-WS-L40. The blades are bent to the left, so they cut to the left of the shaft without moving the instrument across the view.

About the Wullstein Pattern

The extra centimetre of shaft gives more reach. It suits deeper work in the middle ear, and surgeons who work through a longer ear speculum or who want more distance between the hand and the ear.

The 4mm blades are the same length as on the Bellucci, so the cut is just as small and controlled. The difference is reach, not the cut.

What Micro Ear Scissors Are Used For

Ear surgery happens through a canal less than a centimetre wide, under a microscope. Normal scissors cannot fit, and their handles would block the view. Micro ear scissors solve both problems: tiny blades at the end of a long, thin shaft, worked from a handle that stays outside the ear.

Surgeons use them to cut the ear canal skin and lift flaps, trim fascia and perichondrium grafts in tympanoplasty, cut the stapedius tendon in stapes surgery, and divide adhesions and scar bands in the middle ear. Because the tissue is thin and close to the hearing bones, the blades must cut cleanly to the very tip without tearing.

Bellucci, Shea-Bellucci or Wullstein?

• Bellucci — 4mm blades, 8cm working length: everyday precise cutting, the standard pattern

Straight or Curved Micro Ear Scissors?

• Straight — cutting in line with the view: ear canal skin, grafts and soft tissue
• Bent Up — cutting above the line of view, toward the attic
• Bent Right — side cuts to the right in the ear canal and middle ear (used as a pair with the left)
• Bent Left — side cuts to the left in the ear canal and middle ear (used as a pair with the right)

Care and Sterilization

Micro scissors blades are fine and lose their edge if misused. Cut soft tissue only — never wire, bone or needles. Store with the blades closed in a tip guard, and test the cut on a wet gauze strand: blunt scissors tear tissue instead of cutting it. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
