What a Mercedes Tip Is
A Mercedes tip cannula has three ports set around the circumference of the shaft near the distal end, spaced evenly at about 120 degrees apart. The name comes from the resemblance to the three-pointed star: three openings radiating from a single point on the shaft. It is the most widely used aspiration port pattern in body contouring, and for most surgeons it is the default cannula the case starts with.
The reason it became the standard is the balance between speed and control. Three ports move considerably more fat per pass than one, so a large area is cleared in reasonable time.
