Ear Polypus and Dressing Forceps: Troeltsch-Wilde, Lucae, Jansen, Littauer
Ear polypus and dressing forceps have an angled or bayonet shaft with fine grasping jaws, so the hand stays out of the line of sight while the jaws work deep in the ear canal.
They are used to grasp and remove ear polyps, granulation tissue and foreign bodies, and to place and remove ear packing and dressings.
Troeltsch-Wilde forceps have an angled shaft. Lucae and Jansen forceps have a bayonet shaft; the long 21.5cm Jansen also reaches into the nose. Littauer forceps are a fine angled pattern.
- Troeltsch-Wilde Ear Polypus Forceps
- Troeltsch-Wilde Ear Forceps – 12.5cm
- Lucae Ear Polypus Forceps – 14.5cm
- Jansen Ear Polypus Forceps
- Littauer Ear Forceps – 12cm
Hartmann Alligator Ear Forceps
Hartmann alligator ear forceps have a thin shaft with small jaws that open and close at the tip only, worked by a scissor handle, so they open inside the narrow ear canal without spreading it.
They are used to remove foreign bodies, hard wax, small polyps and pieces of tissue, and to take small biopsies.
Jaw patterns differ: serrated jaws grip firmly; smooth jaws handle soft material gently; 1x2 teeth hold slippery objects securely. The delicate pattern is finer for small canals and children. Hartmann-Wullstein jaws are a fine 1.8mm wide.
- Hartmann Ear Forceps Regular Pattern – 14cm
- Hartmann Ear Forceps Delicate Pattern – 12cm
- Hartmann-Wullstein Ear Forceps Serrated
- Hartmann-Wullstein Ear Forceps Smooth 1.8 x 8.0mm
- Hartmann Ear Forceps Serrated
- Hartmann Ear Forceps 1x2 Teeth
- Hartmann-Noyes Ear Forceps
- Struempel Ear Forceps – 8.5cm
Ear Cup Forceps: Hartmann-Wullstein and Hartmann-Herzfeld
Ear cup forceps have small round cup jaws that close into a hollow, so they take a piece of tissue without crushing it.
They are used for biopsies and for removing granulation tissue and polyps from the ear canal and middle ear.
The Hartmann-Wullstein cup forceps has straight cups from 1.0 to 3.0mm. The Hartmann-Herzfeld cups are angled at 45 degrees to reach around the canal curve.
- Hartmann-Wullstein Ear Cup Forceps – 8.5cm
- Hartmann-Herzfeld Ear Cup Forceps 45 Degree – 8.5cm
Hartmann-Hoffmann Through-Cutting Ear Forceps
The Hartmann-Hoffmann through-cutting ear forceps has jaws that cut cleanly through tissue instead of tearing it, taking a neat 2mm bite.
Because the jaws cut rather than pull, the tissue around the bite is left undamaged. It is used for biopsies and to trim polyps and granulation tissue cleanly.
- Hartmann-Hoffmann Through-Cutting Ear Forceps 2mm – 8.5cm

Care and Sterilization
The working ends are fine and should be used only for their own job, never to lever or force. Clean straight after use, dry fully, and store each instrument with its tip protected. Check the tip at every cycle. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
