Hartmann Micro Ear Speculums, Round and Oval

Hartmann ear speculums are funnel-shaped specula that hold the ear canal open and straight, so the surgeon or doctor can see the ear canal and eardrum and work through it.

They are made round or oval. The oval shape follows the oval cross-section of the ear canal, so it gives a wider view for the same comfort.

Three finishes are made. Matte stainless steel reduces reflections; chrome plated is bright and easy to clean; the black anti-glare finish absorbs light so there is no glare under the operating microscope or a head light.

Each comes in 2.7cm and 3.6cm lengths and nine diameters from 3.0 to 7.5mm. Choose the largest diameter that fits the ear comfortably: it gives the widest view and the most light.

Toynbee Micro Ear Speculums

Toynbee ear speculums are thin-walled funnel specula for examining the ear canal and eardrum.

The thin wall gives a large opening for the outside size, so more light and more view reach the eardrum. They are 3.6cm long and made in 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 7.5mm diameters, in plain stainless steel or a black anti-glare finish.

Farrior Micro Ear Speculums, Straight and Angled

Farrior ear speculums are longer specula, 4.3 and 4.5cm, made for ear surgery under the operating microscope.

They are made straight and with the end angled at 20 or 35 degrees. An angled end follows the bend of the ear canal, so it shows parts of the canal and eardrum that a straight speculum hides, and leaves more room for instruments.

Each comes in stainless steel or a black anti-glare finish, and in seven diameters from 4 to 10mm.

Zoellner Micro Ear Speculums

Zoellner ear speculums are 3.8cm specula with wide openings, from 6.5 to 11.5mm, for ear surgery and examination.

The large diameters give a wide view and leave room for instruments in larger ear canals. They are made in stainless steel or a black anti-glare finish.

Ear Speculum Storage Rack

The ear speculum storage rack is a stainless steel stand that holds a set of ear speculums, sorted by size, on upright pins.

Speculums are stacked on the pins so every size is visible and within reach in the clinic or on the instrument table, instead of loose in a drawer where they get scratched and mixed up.

The whole rack goes through cleaning and steam sterilization with the speculums on it, so a complete, sorted set comes out of the autoclave ready to use. It suits Hartmann, Toynbee, Farrior and Zoellner speculums.

Care and Sterilization

The working ends are fine and should be used only for their own job, never to lever or force. Clean straight after use, dry fully, and store each instrument with its tip protected. Check the tip at every cycle. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
