The Angled Spear Shaped Politzer Micro Ear Needle is a fine ear instrument, 15.5cm long, model HM-PN-AS155. What This Ear Needle Does

Healermed makes six Politzer needles: the standard 17.5cm needle, the 16cm furuncle knife, angled needles with a spear or lancet point (15.5cm and 16cm), and 18cm Lucae bayonet needles with a spear or lancet point. A spear point is narrow and makes a small, neat puncture; a lancet point is a little broader and opens a slightly longer cut in one movement. All are long enough to work through an ear speculum with the hand well back from the ear.

About the Angled Spear Shaped Politzer Needle

The shaft is angled and the point is spear-shaped. The angle keeps the handle out of the line of view through the speculum, and the narrow spear point makes a small, neat puncture in the eardrum. At 15.5cm it is the shortest Politzer needle.

Clinical Uses

  • Paracentesis (myringotomy): a small opening in the eardrum

Care and Sterilization

Needle points are very fine and bend easily. Use them on soft tissue only, never on bone or wire, and store each needle with its point in a tip guard. Check the point under magnification at every cycle; a bent or blunt point should be repaired or replaced. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
