What a Wire Bending Forceps Does
Many stapes prostheses hang from the incus on a thin wire loop. After the piston is placed, the loop must be closed gently around the incus so the prosthesis stays put without cutting into the bone. A wire bending forceps holds the wire and bends it in a controlled way so the loop closes evenly. It is used together with the Fuller Prosthesis Introducing Forceps.
Choosing the Tip Length
- 3.5mm tip — more control and a direct bend, for short loops and tight spaces
- 6mm tip — longer reach with less of the instrument in view, and an even bend

Care and Sterilization
Keep these forceps for wire work, and check that the jaws still close evenly. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
