Shambaugh Micro Ear Hooks
Shambaugh micro ear hooks are fine single-point hooks for middle ear microsurgery under the operating microscope.
They are used to feel and gently move the small bones of hearing, to check how freely they move, to lift and separate fine tissue and adhesions, and to position small grafts.
Healermed makes them straight and with the hook at 25, 45 and 90 degrees, plus a curved version. A straight or 25 degree hook works close to the line of view; 45 and 90 degree hooks reach behind edges and under structures.

Schuknecht Micro Ear Hooks, Angled Shaft
Schuknecht micro ear hooks have an angled shaft that keeps the hand and handle out of the microscope's line of sight, with a fine hook at 90 or 45 degrees.
The hook points up, down, left or right, so the surgeon can reach each side of a small structure without turning the instrument across the view. They are used for fine work around the stapes and the other ossicles.
Healermed makes 90 degree hooks in all four directions and 45 degree hooks pointing up and down.

McGee Micro Ear Hooks
McGee micro ear hooks are fine hooks for middle ear and stapes surgery, with the hook bent upwards or downwards.
The up and down versions let the surgeon reach above or below a small structure in the middle ear while the shaft stays in line with the view. They come in 0.5mm and 1.0mm hook sizes.

Hartmann Micro Ear Hooklet
The Hartmann micro ear hooklet is a small, fine hook with a C-shaped curved tip.
The curve lets the tip reach behind small objects and pull them back towards you. It is used to remove small foreign bodies and debris from the ear canal and to handle small pieces of tissue.

Cerumen Hooks: Lucae, Wagener and Day
Cerumen hooks are ear hooks for removing earwax (cerumen) and foreign bodies from the outer ear canal in the clinic.
The Lucae hook is the classic pattern. The Wagener hook has a rounded end, either spherical or teardrop shaped, so it can slide gently behind wax without catching the canal skin. The Day hook has a blunt end for the same safe, gentle removal.
Each is made in several hook sizes. A smaller size suits narrow canals and children; a larger size removes more wax in one pass.

Wullstein Micro Ear Hooks
Wullstein micro ear hooks are fine hooks for middle ear microsurgery, made in the widest range of hook lengths, from 0.2mm to 4.0mm.
The hook is angled at 45, 90 or 120 degrees. A 45 degree hook works close to the line of view, a 90 degree hook reaches behind edges, and a 120 degree hook turns back further still to pull from behind a structure.
Small hook lengths are for fine work around the ossicles; the larger sizes lift and retract bigger pieces of tissue.

Plester Retrograde and Antrum Hooks
Plester hooks are ear surgery hooks for specific jobs: the retrograde hook pulls back towards the surgeon, and the antrum hooks explore and retract in the mastoid antrum.
The retrograde hook has a 2mm hook that points back towards the handle, so it can catch tissue from behind and pull it towards you.
The antrum hooks have a 4mm blunt hook, at 90 or 45 degrees. The blunt end feels and retracts without cutting, for work in the mastoid antrum and the opened mastoid.

Footplate Hooks: Zenner and Plester
Footplate hooks are very fine hooks for stapes surgery, used at the footplate of the stapes.
They are used to lift and remove small pieces of the stapes footplate and to work at the oval window. The Zenner hook has a 0.6mm hook at 90 degrees on a curved shaft; the Plester footplate hook comes in 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6mm sizes.

Care and Sterilization
Hook points are very fine and bend easily. Use micro hooks on soft tissue and small structures only, never to lever bone, and store each hook with its tip in a tip guard. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle; a bent hook should be repaired or replaced. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
