What This Instrument Does

The tip is passed carefully behind the object and then used to lever it out towards the opening of the ear canal, instead of pushing it deeper, which forceps can do with round, smooth objects.

The Moldenhauer lever has an angled tip with a serrated end that grips the object as it is drawn out. The Zaufal lever has a curved tip that slides behind the object.

Care and Sterilization

The working ends are fine and should be used only for their own job, never to lever or force. Clean straight after use, dry fully, and store each instrument with its tip protected. Check the tip at every cycle. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
