Decanting Stand Luer to Luer in German Stainless Steel

This version is Luer at both ends: Luer lock syringes seat in the stand, and the outlet is Luer as well.

It suits theatres that work in Luer throughout. Where harvesting is done with Luer lock syringes rather than 60cc Toomey, everything from aspiration to injection uses one connection standard, and nothing on the table needs an adapter. That is fewer parts to sterilize, fewer joints to leak, and no moment where the graft has to change syringe format.

It also suits smaller harvests. Facial fat transfer and scar work rarely need 60cc syringes, and separating a modest volume in the same Luer syringes it was collected in is simpler than moving it into larger barrels to settle and back out again.

Why Harvested Fat Is Decanted

What comes out of a donor site is not graft. It is fat mixed with tumescent fluid, blood and free oil from cells broken during aspiration, and only one of those is worth injecting.

Left standing, the mixture separates by density on its own. Free oil rises to the top, the fat layer sits in the middle, and tumescent fluid and blood collect at the bottom. Decanting is simply letting that happen and then removing the layers the surgeon does not want.

The point of removing them is what they do after injection. Tumescent fluid contributes volume that disappears within days, so a graft that has not been separated looks correct at the end of the case and undercorrected a week later. Free oil and blood are inflammatory in the recipient site and add nothing. Separating first means the volume the surgeon places is the volume that has a chance of staying.

A stand is what makes it practical. Syringes have to stand nozzle-down and undisturbed for the separation to be clean, and a rack holds a set of them square and stable while the surgeon works on something else. Held by hand or propped in a kidney dish they tip, remix, and the case waits.
