This is a fat harvesting cannula, and the ports are what make it one. Each opening is sharpened at both its leading and its trailing end, so an edge meets tissue whichever way the cannula is moving.
Harvesting is a reciprocating action: the surgeon pushes forward and draws back, repeatedly, filling a syringe or canister. On a cannula with plain port edges only the vacuum separates the fat, and the return stroke contributes little. With both ends sharpened, parcels are cut on the forward stroke and again on the return, so every complete movement of the hand does harvesting work.
That roughly doubles the useful strokes in a given time, which is why this specification exists and why it is the one chosen when a large graft volume has to be collected before the case moves on. On a high-volume transfer the difference is measured in minutes at the donor site.
The trade is that sharp edges cut whatever reaches them. There is less scope to feel a fibrous band and ease around it, because the edge has already divided it. This specification suits an even, fatty donor site worked by a surgeon who wants throughput. For a fibrous or previously operated donor site, or where a gentler cut is preferred, the one-end-sharp or beveled versions give more control per pass. The distal tip is closed and rounded and does not cut; the sharpened edges are on the ports only.

The cannula is made from German stainless steel with a passivated surface that resists corrosion and pitting through repeated cleaning cycles. It is reusable and can be steam autoclaved at 134°C. Flush the lumen and the opening with clean water immediately after use and dry fully before autoclaving. Every port carries two sharpened edges, so there are twice as many surfaces to inspect as on a single-edge harvester. Check each edge under magnification at every cycle; a dulled edge stops cutting and starts tearing, which is worse than a plain port. Flush until the water runs clear, since sharpened ports hold tissue at the corners.
Choose the black handle for glare reduction or tray colour-coding; the shaft, opening and tip are identical to the other handle versions. If your cleaning protocol uses aggressive chemical agents, a plain steel handle will hold its appearance longer. Diameter sets how much comes out per pass and length sets the reach. For high-volume harvesting from the abdomen, flanks and thighs, the 3.0mm to 4.0mm diameters in 25cm to 35cm are the usual working range. The 2.5mm to 3.0mm range in 20cm to 30cm suits smaller donor sites. If the donor site is fibrous or has been operated on before, or you want a gentler cut, choose the one-end-sharp or both-end-bevel version instead.
