The Walter V Shape Modified Chisel/Osteotome is a bone-cutting hand instrument used to cut, split and shape bone during surgery. This version has a 19cm shaft and a narrow 3mm V-shaped modified working tip, made from German stainless steel. It suits surgeons working in tight bone spaces, and distributors who need consistent supply of a fine-tip pattern. See the full range in our Chisels & Osteotomes category.
Surgeons also refer to this instrument as a Walter osteotome, a V-shaped bone chisel, or simply a modified surgical chisel.
At a Glance
A 3mm tip is the narrowest practical width for a V-shaped bone chisel. Less contact area means less mallet force is needed to start the cut, and the surgeon can place the cut line inside a small or crowded field. The V geometry keeps the tip from sliding sideways once it bites into cortical bone.

Bone chisels and osteotomes are used wherever bone must be cut, split or contoured under direct vision. Typical settings include orthopedic surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and reconstructive bone work. A 3mm tip is chosen for detail work — short cut lines, thin bone, and sites where a wider blade would not fit or would remove more bone than intended. The instrument is made from German stainless steel, which holds a working edge under repeated mallet impact and resists corrosion and pitting through many autoclave cycles. It is fully autoclavable. Clean and dry it immediately after use, and inspect the fine tip for edge damage before each sterilization run — narrow tips show wear sooner than wide ones.
Tip width decides how wide a cut you make and how much force it takes to start it. Choose the 3mm when the field is tight, the bone is thin, or the cut line is short and needs to be exact. Choose the 5mm when the cut line is longer or the bone is denser and you want to cover more per pass. Surgeons who do both kinds of work usually stock the pair.

What is a bone chisel used for?
A bone chisel is used to cut, split or shape bone during surgery. The surgeon rests the tip on the bone and drives it with a mallet, cutting along a controlled line. Chisels are used where a powered saw is too aggressive, too hot, or cannot physically reach the site.
What is the difference between the 3mm and 5mm Walter osteotome?
The only difference is tip width. The 3mm tip cuts a narrower line and needs less force to start, which suits thin bone and confined spaces. The 5mm tip removes more bone per pass and handles longer cut lines and denser bone. Both are 19cm and share the same V-shaped modified geometry and steel.
Is this V-shaped bone chisel autoclavable?
Yes. It is a reusable German stainless steel instrument and is fully autoclavable. Clean and dry it right after use, then sterilize on your facility's standard steam autoclave cycle. Because the tip is narrow, check the working edge before every cycle.
Do you offer custom branding or OEM manufacturing?
Yes. We manufacture this instrument under your own brand, including custom laser marking and packaging. As the factory, we control the full process from raw steel to finished instrument. Send your requirements through the wholesale request page for pricing.
