The Walter Osteotome in the 6mm straight fine pattern is a mallet-driven bone cutting instrument used to divide and contour bone in oral, maxillofacial, and small-bone surgery. With a 19cm length and a 6mm cutting edge of German stainless steel, it sits in the middle of the range — wide enough for general bone cutting, narrow enough for controlled work. It belongs to our full line of Chisels & Osteotomes and is supplied both to individual practices and in wholesale volumes to distributors.
Surgeons also refer to this instrument as a straight bone osteotome, fine osteotome, or mini osteotome.

The 6mm straight osteotome is used in procedures where a moderate width of bone must be cut or reshaped under direct control. Common settings include oral and maxillofacial surgery, removal and contouring of bone around surgical sites, and reconstructive small-bone work. The instrument is struck with a surgical mallet; the bi-beveled 6mm edge advances in a straight line, letting the surgeon set both the direction and depth of each cut.
This bone osteotome is forged from German stainless steel selected to withstand repeated mallet impact without chipping or deforming. It resists corrosion through standard hospital reprocessing and is fully reusable, with steam autoclaving to 134°C.
The 6mm width is the general-purpose choice: wide enough to cut efficiently, narrow enough to stay controlled in a confined field. Choose the 2mm or 4mm blades when access is tight and only a fine channel of bone must be divided. Move up to the 9mm or 12mm widths when larger bone sections need to be removed or shaped. Ordering the full graduated set of five widths covers the complete range of cases.

What is a Walter osteotome used for?
A Walter osteotome is used to cut, split, and shape bone, driven by controlled strikes of a surgical mallet. The straight fine blade suits oral, maxillofacial, and small-bone procedures. The 6mm width handles general bone cutting, while narrower and wider blades in the same pattern cover finer or broader work.
What is the difference between an osteotome and a bone chisel?
An osteotome has a bevel on both sides of its tip, while a bone chisel is beveled on one side only. The double bevel makes the osteotome cut straight through bone along the line it is driven; a chisel's single bevel deflects the cut, which suits planing or shaving a bone surface rather than dividing it.
Is the Walter osteotome autoclavable?
Yes. This straight bone osteotome is made from German stainless steel and withstands steam autoclaving to 134°C under standard hospital sterilization protocols. It is a fully reusable instrument that maintains its cutting edge and corrosion resistance across repeated reprocessing cycles when handled correctly.
Can this osteotome be produced under my own brand?
Yes. OEM manufacturing and custom branding are available for wholesale buyers. As the direct manufacturer we can mark and package this instrument under your label. Send your requirements through our wholesale and bulk orders page for OEM terms and volume pricing.
