What a 512 Hz Tuning Fork Is Used For

Middle frequency. 512 Hz is the fork most recommended for the Rinne and Weber tests: high enough not to be felt as vibration, low enough to last long and to be heard clearly by most patients.

About This Version

This Lucae fork has a foot plate on the stem, so it sits flat on the bone and passes the vibration cleanly into it for bone conduction tests.

What This Instrument Does

The foot passes the vibration into the mastoid, forehead or teeth for bone conduction tests, and the series covers the frequencies used for hearing assessment. The C 128 Hz fork is also made with movable rods.

Wipe the tuning fork with a soft cloth and a surface disinfectant after each patient, and dry it. Strike it only on a soft surface such as a rubber pad or the knee, never on a table or metal: hard knocks can change the pitch. Store it so the prongs do not touch other instruments.
