Citelli and Beyer Mastoid Rongeurs, Angled Upward
Mastoid rongeurs are bone-biting instruments with small jaws that take out bone in controlled bites. The jaws of these rongeurs are angled upward, so they bite bone above the line of the shaft.
They are used in mastoid surgery and ear surgery to open the mastoid air cells, widen bony openings and remove overhanging bone, where a drill would be too slow or too risky.
The Citelli rongeur is a punch rongeur with upward-angled jaws. The Beyer rongeur is a fine bone rongeur, made with a 1mm or 2mm bite for delicate work.

Care and Sterilization
The working ends are fine and should be used only for their own job, never to lever or force. Clean straight after use, dry fully, and store each instrument with its tip protected. Check the tip at every cycle. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
