What the Angled Left Serrated Jaw Does

The shaft runs down the ear canal and the jaws turn to the left at the end. The tip can then work to the side of the canal or middle ear while the shaft stays out of the way of the microscope.

Which side is 'front' or 'back' depends on which ear is being operated on, so the angled left and angled right forceps are usually bought as a pair and used as mirror images. The jaws are serrated to hold tissue under traction.

If you only order one side, you will find the other side hard to reach. We recommend ordering left and right together.

Why a 4 x 0.8mm Tip

A 4mm long, 0.8mm wide tip is the general-purpose size. The wider jaw gives the most grip surface of the three sizes, so it holds larger pieces and resists twisting. Choose it as your first forceps if you are buying one size only.

The same angled left serrated jaw is also made as 4mm x 0.6mm (HM-EF-L40-06) and 3.5mm x 0.6mm (HM-EF-L35-06). Many surgeons keep two sizes: one for general work and one finer tip for the most delicate steps.

Care and Sterilization

Micro forceps tips are fine and bend easily. Use them on soft tissue only — never on wire, bone or needles. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
