What Bent Left Blades Do

The blades turn to the left at the end of the shaft, for side cuts in the ear canal and middle ear, such as releasing adhesions or cutting a band that lies to the side. Which side is front or back depends on which ear is being operated on, so bent left and bent right scissors are normally bought as a pair.

The Shea-Bellucci pattern is also made straight (HM-SB-S80), bent up (HM-SB-UP80), bent right (HM-SB-R80).

About the Shea-Bellucci Pattern

The Shea-Bellucci pattern follows the Bellucci design with longer 8mm blades and an 8cm working length.

Longer blades cut a longer line in one closure. That means fewer cuts when opening skin flaps in the ear canal or trimming a fascia graft, and a straighter, cleaner edge.

The trade-off is space. Longer blades need more room to open, so for the tightest spots close to the ossicles the 4mm Bellucci or Wullstein is the better choice.

The same bent left blades also come as the Wullstein bent left (HM-WS-L40) and the Bellucci bent left (HM-BS-L40).

Care and Sterilization

Micro scissors blades are fine and lose their edge if misused. Cut soft tissue only — never wire, bone or needles. Store with the blades closed in a tip guard, and test the cut on a wet gauze strand: blunt scissors tear tissue instead of cutting it. Clean the instrument straight after use, before blood and tissue dry on the tip. Use a soft brush and an ultrasonic cleaner, rinse, and dry fully. Put a drop of instrument lubricant on the joint before sterilizing. Steam autoclave at up to 134°C in a tray with a silicone mat or tip guard, so the fine tip never knocks against other instruments. Check the tip under magnification at every cycle.
